Conservation Calling
Future veterinarian Kasandra Samaniego ’28 works to support conservation and community-building projects during a summer spent in South Africa.
Intercontinental Exploration
OWU students complete a Travel-Learning Course to Southern Africa, concluding their study of “Health Communication & The Black Body” and “Black Feminisms.”

Ohio Wesleyan students explore the “Literary and Religious Narratives of British Muslims” while completing a Travel-Learning Course in the United Kingdom.
Highlands Rewilding

2025-2026 Global Scholars
OWU’s 21 new Palmer Global Scholars will take special classes, receive funds for study abroad, complete a faculty-supervised thesis, and graduate with a global certificate.

More than 60 entrepreneurial heavyweights will speak at OWU’s Kickstart Ohio conference Oct. 23-25, with Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak sitting down for a fireside chat with President Matt vandenBerg.
Invaluable Opportunity
The Delaware Entrepreneurial Center at OWU is accepting applications through Sept. 26 for its second annual U.S. Entrepreneurship Competition – the largest and most invested business plan contest in Ohio.
Hall of Fame Inductees
At Homecoming, OWU inducts six former Bishop standouts into the Athletics Hall of Fame and bestows special awards upon Jeff Long ’82, Tom Schott ’90, and John Guy ’60.
Team of Distinction
OWU recognizes the 1970-71 wrestling team as its Team of Distinction during Homecoming for its distinguished members and extraordinary contributions to Bishop athletics.
Passing Game
Quarterback C.J. Jackson ’27 ties an OWU record of six passing touchdowns set in 2010 by Mason Espinosa ’14 as the Bishops defeat Otterbein 65-28.
Commissioners Award
Javelin thrower Trey Theobald ’25 is the Region VII winner for the Division III Commissioners Association (D3CA) Men’s Sport Student-Athlete of the Year.
First Win!
Matt Weiss earns his first victory as head coach of the Battling Bishop men’s soccer team on senior day, when Ohio Wesleyan defeats the Berea College Mountaineers 2-0.
New SID
OWU names Brendan Eagan as sports information director. The College Sports Communicators group has recognized Eagan seven times this year for his creative and digital design.
OWU Connection Conference
Students spent Sept. 18 attending sessions – including this Peer-to-Peer Pre-Health Roundtable – exploring the many ways they can integrate the OWU Connection into their Ohio Wesleyan educations.
“This year’s conference showcased the sustained engagement of our community – faculty and staff who mentor students and design experiential learning opportunities, alongside students who have developed into effective presenters and session leaders,” says David Markwardt, associate dean of the OWU Connection.
During the day, students checked into sessions 1,784 times, with 162 students presenting information about their experiences with Ohio Wesleyan’s Think Big, Do Good, Go Global, and Get Real signature program. (Photo by Paul Vernon)
