As we prepare to usher in 2021, here are some of 2020’s most memorable Ohio Wesleyan moments.
Gilman Scholars
Jeremiah Anderson ’23 (from left), Miko Harper ’21, and Megha Malik ’21 earn competitive 2020 Gilman International Scholarships.
Aiding Animals
Liza Dmitrieva ’21 completes a veterinary clinic internship working with farm animals and pets in central Texas.
Wesleyan in Washington
Kyle Wilgus ’22 spends a semester working in D.C. in the U.S. State Department’s Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism.
United Nations Association
Danielle Black ’22 interns with the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area as part of OWU’s Wesleyan in Washington program.

Building Brands
OWU’s Business 425 Entrepreneurship class creates commercialization plans for patented U.S. military technologies and presents their work in an online competition.
A Great, Great, Great Gift
Ohio Wesleyan is gifted portraits of Frederick and Fidelia Merrick from Merrick’s great, great, great nephew. The paintings of the former OWU president and first lady are by portraitist Joseph Whiting Stock.
Enduring Inspiration
OWU creates the Charles Thomas Scholarship to honor Thomas, one of only a few Black students playing college baseball in the early 1900s. His experiences inspired Branch Rickey 1904 to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier.
Women’s Tennis Coach
Bobby Irwin is named the OWU women’s tennis coach, joining the Bishops from Ursuline College. Irwin is a certified tennis pro with the U.S. Professional Tennis Association.
Holiday & New Year’s Wishes
For this year’s holiday video, Ohio Wesleyan students created messages of hope and better times for 2021. Noah Green ’21 wrote and performed the lovely, atmospheric music, and Mark Schmitter ’12 created the beautiful video.
